Much has been said about the food, the beaches, the history and the people of Vietnam. With 54 different ethnic groups, cultural discoveries abound with experience and knowledge gleaned only from first-hand encounters and immersion in the Vietnamese way of life.
A unique culture was born out of influences from French and Chinese colonization, changing dynasties and a country rising above decades of war, unrest, fear and foreign rule. With their iconic and ornate bronze drums, Vietnam's forefathers, the Dong Son, are recognized as the foundation of Vietnam's culture, one that both ruling dynasties and conquerors built upon.
From about 250 BC., it took until the 1980's where for the Vietnamese to raise their own voice as a soveriegn people. Rising from the shadows of war and centuries of tyrannical rule, they are now painting at a vivid picture of social and economic progress with very intense, intriguing and inspiring stories to tell. These experiences alone warrant our time and openness from which we can certainly take so much.
The diversity of Vietnam's people translates to their adventurous cuisine. Dishes of fresh produce with tastes of sweet, sour, chili, and herbs perform a medley for the palate. Food varies by region, and visitors to Vietnam will find different tastes in each city they visit.
